Why are you so expensive?
Why so expensive
This is a question we take very seriously. We know how hard it is for most families to pay for these types of services. The reality is that we work in an industry that is flooded with people that really don't know what they are doing. We refuse to compete with that type of business, and our pricing reflects that. It's expensive to perform our services properly and reliably.
Our pricing reflects our commitment to you and our employees.
-
A large portion of your lawn care costs with us goes to our employees. This helps them live a comfortable life and helps us attract the best talent.
-
We take our time to perform your service properly. By intentionally limiting the number of jobs per employee every day, we are able to spend more time ensuring your service is being performed to meet your high standards.
-
Limiting jobs also means we are not chasing volume for profit. Instead of competing on price, we compete on the quality of our service.
-
We spend top dollar on our equipment and products to reduce fatigue and risk of injury to our employees. Top quality equipment also means top quality results. We don't cheap out on tools, equipment, and products.
-
We are dependable. Lawn mowing jobs occur on the same day of the week, every week. If there is a need to adjust your schedule, we communicate that with you as quickly as possible. For lawn treatments, we track the progress of your lawn and keep it on a schedule based on it's unique needs. For recurring gardening services, we keep an inventory of every plant in your yard, and put EACH INDIVIDUAL plant on a pruning schedule. That means if you have just a single plant in your beds that needs pruning in a given month, our system will tell us and we send someone. That's right. One plant.
-
If we break it, we fix it. Things happen, so we are prepared for it. No arguing, no haggling. In the last four years, we've repaired siding, replaced a glass door, and repaired a sprinkler pipe. These repairs were paid for by us and completed by competent, licensed businesses. We are insured in case something really goes wrong.
-
Our employees are insured. Hiring the wrong company can cost you thousands if someone is injured on your property. Uncle Onion's carries workers comp and other insurance to ensure you are not liable for our injuries.

P.S. You are not paying for the owner's new truck. I drive a used Volkswagen.
Are your lawn products actually safe for my children and pets?
Are Your Products Safe
YES! We research the crud out of products every day. Then we use them in our own lawn where our children play. If we are happy with it, we put it in service. We've been known to talk to our most discerning clients about new products. If we have any doubts about a product, we won't use it.
OK, the products are safe, but do they actually work?
Do Your Products Work
Absolutely! Other than providing you with safe products, our biggest concern is ensuring you are receiving quality results. Organics and natural products take longer than synthetics to show results, but they absolutely work. The best part? You may not need us forever! Grass becomes dependent on synthetics because all they do is make it green. Our process treats the soil. Eventually, the cycle will become self sufficient and our services will no longer be needed. In the meantime, you have to water less, your lawn is more heat and drought tolerant, and the grass is durable enough for the kids to walk and play on it.
How much noise does your equipment make?
How Much Noise
Our lawn mowers sound like noisy fans. They are quiet enough from the operator's position that hearing protection is not required. You may still hear us mowing the lawn, but we have had client's tell us they didn't know we were there. The blowers are louder than the mowers, but are MUCH quieter than gas. Hearing protection is not required while using our blowers, either. Our string trimmers are the quietest tools we use. You only hear the whir of the string as it spins through the air.
We've tried our services with families that have someone that is sensitive to sounds. Our equipment helps in many cases, but in a few cases we were still making too much noise. We do have protocols in place for these situations, so let us know if you need us to reduce sound while performing your service.
-
Softly close vehicle doors, preferably leaving doors open and only closing them once at the end of the job.
-
Sweeping instead of using the blower.
-
Mowing with a mulch plug or bag in place to help muffle the sound of the blades. Our equipment also has blade control speeds, so when possible, we mow at the lowest blade speed to produce less noise.
-
Use scissors near the house to minimize the use of string trimmers.
We are always open to suggestions from families that have ideas for reducing sound around people with noise sensitivities.
I pay another lawn care company to treat my lawn. Will you still mow my lawn?
Will You Still Mow My Lawn
You bet! Some lawn treatments require a hold on mowing for a few days. Just let us know when your lawn care provider tells you about this and we'll schedule your service accordingly.
I either pay a lawn care company to fertilize my lawn, or I do it myself, and I have a sprinkler system. Can you mow my lawn biweekly?
Will You Mow Biweekly
We'd rather not. Treated and watered lawns grow very fast, especially April through July. This extra growth is hard on our equipment, hard on our employees, and takes extra time. Expect to be charged for the next size up because of the additional time it takes to mow your lawn. For example, if your lawn falls in the Standard Lawn size, expect to pay the Large Lawn rate, or more because of high grass surcharges. If we mow it weekly, we can stay on top of it, so you would be charged at the Standard Lawn rate and would not be charged high grass surcharges. You can save a lot of money by prepaying your services on the first of the month.
The best schedule is to mow weekly, even if it looks like it doesn't need it. This is because taking a little off is much better for the lawn than taking a lot off. You are paying a lot of money maintaining your lawn. Don't ruin with improper mowing.
How can I pay you?
How Can I Pay You
After you sign up for our services, you will receive access to an online customer portal. You can set up recurring payments with a credit card from within your portal. Your credit card will be automatically charged when recurring jobs are completed, such as lawn mowing and lawn treatments. For bigger jobs, like a large landscaping job, we will send you an invoice to review that you can pay online by credit card, or you can mail us a check.
For monthly payments, your card on file is automatically charged on the first of the month.
We also accept checks. To pay with a check for recurring jobs, we ask that you pay on the first of the month and mail us a check when you receive the invoice. In some cases, we can accept cash. Note that your Gardener normally does not accept payments, and they do not carry cash.
Do your employee's work for tips.
Tips
Nope! But they are always appreciative when a client leaves them a tip. It's definitely not expected, though.
Are you really giving prices on your website? Don't we need to talk on the phone? Someone needs to come to my house, right?
Pricing
Yep, we give our prices on our website. And nope, we don't need to come to your house or talk to you on the phone for most of our services. You can see right up front if we are a fit for you or not. You also don't have to spend days or weeks waiting on us to give you an estimate for most of the services we provide. In the rare event your price needs to be adjusted, we'll let you know after the first service. We let the quality of our service do the selling instead of relying on high pressure and annoying sales tactics.
Unless you have a specific request or need that you want to show us, we can offer online pricing without bugging you with a phone call or home visit for:
-
Lawn mowing*
-
Lawn treatment services**
-
Most hauling services
-
We Come to You Lawn Mower Blade Sharpening Services
-

If you are a recurring client for another service, we can give you pricing for any of our services without needing to meet with you in person.
We will need to meet with you personally for most Gardening Services so you can point out exactly what you want done. We don't want to remove the wrong plant!

*If the grass is overgrown when we arrive for a lawn mowing, we may hold service until you agree to pay the high grass surcharge fee.
**If you have landscaping other than grass that you want treated, we'll need to visit your home to inventory your plants.
